December 13th 2014 saw the introduction of the new EU directive 1169/2011 in terms of making allergen information available, on demand, at any catering outlet.
The implications are that any establishment that makes or serves food for sale to an end customer has a legal responsibility to declare all allergenic ingredients contained in their product, if requested.
This regulation is being introduced to ensure all food product labelling is brought in line with current labelling requirements, where allergen information is already stated on pre-packed foods.
Failure to comply could result in severe penalties or a loss of business.
